Spike Support

How can we help?

Find the right app, connect your own model, or solve a problem without hunting through technical documentation.

Quick answers

Common questions.

Do I need a subscription to use my own model?

No Spike inference subscription is required when your own LM Studio, Ollama or OpenAI-compatible server performs the inference. A free Spike account is still used for identity, Runtime discovery and the secure account relay.

Can Spike Runtime run from both Mac and CLI?

Yes. Spike for Mac 1.8.61 or newer can share its Direct Server as a Runtime. Spike Agent CLI 2.0.17 or newer can host one with spike runtime serve.

Does my model server need to be exposed to the internet?

No. Runtime makes an outbound connection to the Spike account relay. Your provider URL and optional API key remain on the host machine, so you do not need to open a router port.

Why do I see a 429 error?

A 429 means the request reached a rate-limited hosted path. If you intended to use your own model, confirm the Runtime is online and selected. For the CLI, also run spike login status and sign in again if needed.

What is the difference between Direct Server and Runtime?

Direct Server connects one client straight to a reachable model endpoint and is useful on the same machine or LAN. Runtime keeps the endpoint private on its host and makes the model discoverable to your other signed-in Spike clients.

What does “Mac Agent host online” mean?

It means remote Agent execution is connected. Model hosting is separate: your local model is shared only when “Share Direct Server as a Spike Runtime” is enabled.
